Attended Event-April 14th 6:00PM-8:00PM -Escambia County ARES Elmersnet & ARESnet -Five Flags Amateur Radio Association
John Thomas Winskas Event;
My Mirkit TP8Pro Baofeng Two Way Radio Long Range Max Power 8W I ordered from Amazon was received Sunday 04/13/2025.
I read the safety instructions powered the radio on for the first time 04142025, the first dualband VHF/UHF radio I've used and the first ARESnet/ Elmersnet event I have been able to attend.
I listened to the Elmers net at home while preparing/ organizing flyers and looking up information on the ARES internet feed at home; I was able to find the Escambia County ARES 146.76 repeater live feed at Amateur radio repeaters in Milton, Florida Live Audio Feed, yet, as I was looking up the internet feed I was able to receive a transmission from the ARES Repeater on my new Mirkit TP8Pro Baofeng Two Way 8W Radio I got for 13$ on Amazon and listened to the Elmersnet at my home before walking to my sisters and brothers & law's house to finish up yard work/ family chores. While walking to their house I placed 3 folders of flyers I collected from the Fred Levins Wayfest in the outdoor libraries (little Libraries) in the easthill neighborhood, and continued to listen to the Elmers net and ARESnet while pulling weeds and raking my sister & brother & law's yard.
I want to thank Fiveflags Amateur radio association and Escambia County ARES for holding these weekly meetings for aspiring/future amateur radio technician license holders, and look forward to earning taking the ARRL technician's license exam later this month!
